Junior and Science High School Entrance Examination: A Parent’s Guide
For parents of most graduating elementary students, this is the time of the year to inquire of the application process for high school entrance exams. To help parents find the information that they need, here is a list of the requirements, contact details and application process of some high schools in Metro Manila. For schools that do not have an announcement yet of the examination date schedule, the data was based on the documents and requirements that they had during the previous years. Philippine Science High School

Who may Apply
Applicants must meet the following:
- have a final grade of 85% or better in Science and Mathematics, evidenced by the student’s report card. If the student’s grades in Science or Math are below 85%, then, he/she must provide evidence that he/she belongs to the upper 10% of the batch;
- be a Filipino citizen with no pending or approved application as immigrant to any foreign country;
- not be more than 15 years old by June 30, 2020;
- have at least a satisfactory rating (or its equivalent) in his/her Character Rating in his/her report card (SY 2019 – 2020);
- not have taken the PSHS NCE previously; and
- preferably, be in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program.
Documents to Submit
- Fully accomplished Application Form in two (2) copies
- Two (2) identical recent 1×1 ID pictures
- Non-refundable processing fee (for private school students — Php 300, for public school students and indigent students from private schools — Free)
- Certified true copy of report card (SY 2019 – 2020) by the class adviser / principal
- If the final grades in Science or Math are below 85%, certification or proof that the child belongs to the upper 10% of the batch
- Please submit a certification from the private school, if the pupil-applicant is on full scholarship.
Criteria and Evaluation
This new system is adopted to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among thousands of examinees who gather in testing sites across the country.
The selection procedure shall be conducted in two stages. The first stage is by determining the applicant’s predicted NCE grade (PNG) which is based on final grades in Science and Mathematics in Grade 5.
The second stage is based on writing skills through a submission of essay and the applicant’s academic rank at the end of Grade 5.
Applicants will be ranked from highest to lowest based on their Final Score.
The top 240 applicants are considered as the Principal Qualifiers of the PSHS Main Campus (MC).
The top 90 or 120, depending on the quota of the PSHS campus, candidates in the regional ranking are the Principal Qualifiers of the Regional Campus.

Quezon City Science High School

Who may Apply
Applicants must meet the following:
- Must have a quarterly grade of 85% or better in Science, English and Mathematics and a grade of 83% or better in all other subjects as evidenced by the pupil’s first and second quarter grade report card of SY 2019-2020. If his/her grades in Science, English and Mathematics are below 85% and below 83% in all other subjects, then, a certification from the school principal must be provided stating that he/she belongs to the upper 10 % of the class of the school year;
- Must be a Filipino citizen with no pending/approved application as immigrant to any foreign country;
- Must be a resident of the National Capital Region (NCR) or currently studying in an elementary school within NCR;
- Preferably in good health and fit to undergo a rigorous academic program as certified by a government physician;

- Duly accomplished Application form ; downloadable from the division website
- Original and Certified True Copy of School Form 9 (Report Card) for SY 2019-2020 bearing the grade of 85 in Science, English and Mathematics and 83 in all other subjects (provide numerical grades for letter grading )
- Certification from present school enrolled in regarding the academic grades/upper 10% of the class and of good moral character
- Sworn affidavit of both parents/ guardian that the pupil-applicant has no pending/approved application for immigration in any foreign country;
- Four (4) recently taken I x I ID pictures with name written at the back;
- Self-addressed stamped envelope;
- One (1) long brown envelope labeled with the name of the applicant.
The Admission Committee issues the test permit upon completion and evaluation of all requirements submitted by the applicant. The permit shall state the particulars regarding the schedule of orientation, the actual day of examination and the things to bring on examination day.
The examinee and his/her parent shall attend the briefing/orientation as scheduled. This shall be put in writing.
Both the applicant and his/her parents shall bind themselves in writing that they shall not in any way request/solicit influence from any persons of authority in order for his/her child to be accommodated in QCSHS.

Manila Science High School

Who may Apply
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- An incoming Grade 7 student and a candidate for SY 2021-2022 graduation of any DepEd recognized elementary school.
- Not over 13 years of age at the opening of the school year 2021-2022.
- Possesses good moral character and must be physically and mentally fit.
- Must have a percentile grade of at least 85% in Mathematics, Science and English subjects, and a percentile grade of at least 83% in all other subjects including their subcomponents for the first and second grading period. Percentile grades in the succeeding grading period lower than the aforementioned grade qualification is ground for disqualification.
Applications for the MSAT will only be entertained once the applicant has accomplished the online registration and thoroughly filled out the application form.

Documents to Submit
After the online registration, the applicant must submit the following documents:
- Certificate of residency
- Recommendation letter from either Grade 5 or Grade 6 class adviser.
- Certified true copy (with school dry seal) of learner’s progress report card reflecting the first and second quarter grades for SY 2020-2021. (Applicant must present a letter from the school if implementing the international calendar or trimester.)
- Original certificate of good moral character (with school dry seal) signed by the school principal/guidance counselor
- 3 pieces of 1 x 1 ID picture with name tag (Surname, First Name, MI) in school uniform
- Original and photocopy of PSA/NSO birth certificate.
Only those with complete requirements will be entertained by the designated administrative staff.
Submission of pertinent documents must be during school days from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm by duly designated members of Administrative Staff at Records Section of Manila Science High School. Application requests will not be entertained during weekends and holidays.
After successfully completing the online application and submitting the documents and requirements, MSAT permit will be issued to the applicant’s parent of guardian.
Qualifying Tests
Part I: Aptitude Test in Science, Mathematics and English (via Google Meet and Schoology)
Part II: Panel Interview
School ID card shall be presented by the applicant before the online examination for verification purposes.
Applicants who pass the aptitude test shall be informed (through their email address) of the details of the virtual panel interview.
The names of Top 230 passers will be posted on the bulletin board and in the school website on July 30, 2021.
Students from public elementary schools in Manila who graduated with highest honors will be given admission privilege upon submission of a certification from the School Head.
MSAT passers who fail to enroll within the announced enrollment period shall be replaced by those who are next in rank.

University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS)

Note: Grade 7 admission is dependent upon the number of vacated slots by UPIS Grade 6 students. UPIS Grade 6 students who have completed their academic requirements are automatically admitted to Grade 7. Only when the projected Grade 7 enrollment falls below 100 does UPIS make a call for Grade 7 applicants.

Applicants must have an average of 85% or better (or its equivalent in another grading system) for three grading periods.
Documents to Submit
- Fully accomplished application form (available at Office of Research, Development and Publication) and principal’s certification (certification of average for the last three grading periods or 2nd trimester)
- Two (2) recent 1.5″ x 1.5″ identical photos pasted in the designated boxes on the application form and test permit
- Photocopy of the report card (Bring the original copy for verification)
- A long white letter envelope with postal stamp for mailing of results. Write the names of the applicant and his/her parent/guardian and address with zip code.
